Please join us to Raise the Roof in Ribchester!
'Raise the Roof' is a community heritage appeal in Ribchester, which aims to raise the funding needed to complete necessary repair work to the stone slate roof of the village's Grade I listed church, St. Wilfrid's.
These roof repairs were identified as part of the building's most recent 'quinquennial' inspection' by specialist surveyors and are needed immediately. They will protect the fabric of the building, much of which is believed to date back to the 13th Century, from damage and decay caused by damp and water ingress. They will also protect interior fittings and several items of historic interest.
At the same time a new boiler will be fitted inside the building. This will provide a more efficient and controllable source of heat, providing further damage limitation.
Overall costs for the work (which must be carried out by heritage specialist contrators) will be around £207,000. To date, we have secured funding from several charitable trusts and foundations totalling nearly £167,000. This leaves us with a £40,000 shortfall in funding to complete the work.
This appeal aims to bring our community together; to raise money, make up the shortfall and ensure that a historical asset is protected for years to come. But... most importantly... to have FUN as we do so!
